Religion and Language Although the modern day has seen a push away from the use of a single language in a religion, with religious texts being written in every language possible, back before the inventions of technology such as the printing press, religions were usually tied to a single language. In terms of survival, tying itself to a religion can often be in a languages favor, especially if it is a universalizing language that will attempt to spread itself, and subsequently its language. A language ties itself to a religion by being used in the majority of its religious texts and rituals, leading to groups of people that convert to the religion to also pick up the language, to some degree. This also makes it much harder for the language to die out, as the religion will provide a reason for population's to keep the language over others. The Shield of Faith is primarily just that, a shield, as many times when a religion is picked up by other groups, they do not fully integrate with the language, and use it only in sermons and religious practices, and for this reason the primary use of a religion is making sure that a language does not die out as it gives the language a reason to stick around. The relation between religion and language is often overlooked, as it is often not seen as a crucial part in religion, but with regards to how languages survive, faith is a powerful tool.
